Select cell A2

Put cursore over the cell and click.

Select cells A2 through C6

Select cell A2 and drop the cursor to cell C6

Select the first 4 non-empty cells in Column A

There are different ways. 
Try this one:

-          Select cell A1

-          Hold down the SHIFT button and press the “down-arrow” button. The selection will extend one cell at a time

Select ALL the non-empty cells in Column A

There are different ways.

Try this one:

-          Select cell A1

-          Hold down the SHIFT button and the CTRL button  and press the “down-arrow” button. The selection will extend to the last non-empty cell in the column.
